You Are My Sunshine Urns
This collection is for the person who was the light in the house, the ones who sang at bedtime, or the couple who shared it for decades. It honors a specific voice and a melody handed down through generations, a tune that remains constant from the crib to the hospital room.
Each cast aluminum urn features the You Are My Sunshine artwork as an engraving. Available in full-size, sharing, and keepsake sizes, these pieces come in painted finishes or hand-applied enamel with silver bands. We offer two-tone engraving of a name and dates as an option. These urns serve as a tribute to the song that defined a life.
Families often turn to this collection when they are looking for a way to remember a specific person who was the heart of their home. It is for the parent who hummed it while rocking a child, or the grandchild who carries that same melody into their own adulthood. It is for the couple who let this song become the soundtrack to fifty years of marriage, or for that one person whose very presence changed the temperature of a room just by walking into it.
This choice is rarely about the song in the abstract. Instead, it is about a specific voice and the unique way it sounded in a particular room at a particular hour. These melodies are often handed down through generations without anyone ever making a formal decision to do so. It is a rare kind of comfort that works at both ends of a life, sung over a crib and later sung in a hospital room by the same hands. You choose this design because the voice behind the music is what you miss most.
The sunshine artwork is engraved directly into the cast aluminum, serving as a quiet visual echo of the music. These urns are finished in a variety of colors through a painted process, or in a hand-applied enamel with delicate silver bands. Each piece is built with a threaded screw-top lid and a felt base to ensure it remains steady.
Because every family has different needs, the collection is offered in full-size, sharing, and keepsake sizes. This allows you to choose a single piece to hold the ashes or several pieces to be distributed among those who want to carry a part of that sunshine with them.
To make the tribute more personal, we can engrave a name and dates directly into the metal. This two-tone engraving becomes a permanent part of the piece, a final way to honor the person who was your sunshine.
The song is older than most people assume and nobody is entirely sure who wrote it. The Pine Ridge Boys recorded it on August 22, 1939 and Bluebird released it that October, with no songwriter credited on the label at all. Jimmie Davis and Charles Mitchell copyrighted it on January 30, 1940 and recorded it days later. Davis went on to be governor of Louisiana twice and used it in his campaigns, and in 1977 the state legislature made it one of its official songs.
For a family, the design on the urn is the voice that sang it, and the room they sang it in.

If the person you remember was the one who changed the temperature of a room just by walking into it, or the one whose voice defined the quietest hours of the night, then this design will recall those specific qualities. A grandchild will recognize the melody, and a spouse will recognize the way the song was sung. The decision to choose this piece rests with your own memory of who they were.
You picture them in that familiar room at that particular hour, singing the melody that belonged to them.
